“Congratulations!” GROMADA Skhid is the best not only among printed media, but also among online media of Donetsk region,” the editorial office received such a message from Donetsk Press Club, which is a partner of Volyn Press Club in implementing the Gender-Sensitive Space of Modern Journalism project.

According to the results of the third (last this year) wave of monitoring the level of gender sensitivity of Donetsk media, our newspaper took 1st place among 10 online and printed publications.

The last monitoring period lasted from June 7 to 13, 2021. Each media was analyzed in five categories: topics (representation of men and women as experts – those who are quoted, and heroes/heroines – those who are mentioned but do not give their views on the issue), the number of femininities, the presence of stereotypes images, sexist content in journalistic materials and publications on gender issues.

«GROMADA Skhid is the undisputed leader in the use of femininities from the very beginning of this year’s monitoring: two waves in a row the figure was 100%, and in the third – 88%, but it is still the highest among all studied media in Donetsk region. The number of female experts decreased slightly from February to June – from 50 to 39, while the number of heroines increased: from 33% to 54% (in April) and remained at 54% in June. The newspaper also has the highest gender sensitivity index in June (59%) and all three waves as well (62%). The editorial office adheres to high journalistic standards, striving to show the achievements of both women and men (especially when they launch initiatives or businesses important to communities)», – it is stated in the message.

We will remind that according to this indicator, our newspaper reached even the TOP positions in the rating of nationwide media. However, despite the honorable final 62% of our publication, the index of media gender sensitivity in the eastern regions of Ukraine remains relatively low.
